He graduated from Anadolu University Faculty of Medicine in 1993. In 2003, he completed his residency training at the Department of Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology at Istanbul University Istanbul Faculty of Medicine. After his residency, he briefly served as the Director of the Microbiology Laboratory at Istanbul Medicine Hospital before being appointed to the faculty of the Department of Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology at Adnan Menderes University Faculty of Medicine in 2004. In the same department, he was promoted to Assistant Professor in 2007, Associate Professor in 2012, and Professor in 2017. During this period, he established and was responsible for the Nazlı - Selim Eren Chronic Wound and Infections Care Unit at the University Hospital in 2016. Between August 2020 and February 2023, she worked as an Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology Specialist at Istanbul Reyap Hospitals, where she also established and managed the Chronic Wound Care Service. In March 2023, she established her own GEDA Clinic in Izmir, where she currently works.
He has over 90 research articles and book chapters, both national and international, and over 150 conference and symposium presentations and papers. During his academic career, he has been a project manager or assistant researcher in 11 research projects. He was invited to work as an observer faculty member for one month at the Oxford University Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre Bone Infections Department in 2015 and at the University of Zurich Balgrist University Hospital in 2019. His main areas of interest are diabetic foot infections, orthopedic infections, viral hepatitis, skin and soft tissue infections, rational antibiotic use, antibiotic resistance, intensive care infections, and fungal infections. He has served as chair, scientific secretary, and scientific committee member at numerous conferences and symposiums related to his field.
He is a member of the Turkish Medical Association (TTB), the Turkish Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (KLİMİK), the European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (ESCMID), Wound Care and Tissue Repair Association, International Working Group on the Diabetic Foot (IWGDF), and Western Anatolia Fungal Working Group Association (BAMÇAG). Since 2011, he has been participating as an associate member in the work of the Diagnostic and Treatment Guidelines for Diabetic Foot Infections prepared by the International Working Group on the Diabetic Foot. He served as a member of the KLİMİK Association Board of Directors for two terms between 2017 and 2021. He is a founding member of the KLİMİK Association Diabetic Foot Infections Working Group and served as Secretary of the Working Group from 2011 to 2015. He served as chair of the group for two terms from 2017 to 2021 and is currently a member of the Working Group Executive Committee.
